Recently, Nature Publishing Group has updated the ranklist of the 2018 natural index (statistical time nodes from 2017.1.1 to 2017.12.31). SCUN is ranked on the list, ranking 139 in universities in mainland China, and compared with 2014 (202), 2015 (177), 2016 (153), and 2017 (157), the ranking has steadily elevated.
In Nov. 2014, Nature Publishing Group released the global Natural Index with a new WFC (weighted fractional count) index. The analysis of natural index is based on the number of research papers published by various scientific research institutions in the 68 series of natural science journals such as Nature Series, Science, and Cell in the previous year. It tracks the authorship of about 60,000 high-quality scientific papers and their unit information, and covers more than 20,000 scientific research institutions worldwide. The 68 source journals were selected by two independent panelists composed of global scientists. They were divided into four categories: Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences and Physics. The natural index is the total number of papers calculated and calculating the relative contributions of different countries and institutions in each paper. It plays an important role in evaluating scientific research institutions' output in international high-level academic achievements.
