SCUN Teachers Achieves Outstanding Results in the 6th Teaching Competition of Hubei Province for Young University Teachers

On July 2-4 and August 21-23, the 6th Teaching Competition of Hubei Province for Young University Teachers organized by Hubei Labor Union for Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports was held at Central China Normal University (CCNU). A total of 115 young teachers from 43 colleges and universities in Hubei Province contended in the six-day competition. The four young teachers we selected and sent achieved outstanding results in the competition. Teacher Tian Yuanzi from the School of Literature, Journalism and Communication won the first place in the Literature and History Group, and teacher Gong Li from the School of Marxism, teacher Shu Guangwen from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and teacher Tang Qian from the School of Foreign Languages won the third prize respectively in the Ideology and Politics Group, the Science Group, and the Foreign Language Group.

The competition was divided into five groups. We participated in the competition of four groups: the Ideology and Politics Group, the Literature and History Group, the Science Group, and the Foreign Language Group. The competition contents consist of three parts: teaching design, classroom teaching, and teaching reflection. To highlight the competition concept of “give a good lesson”, all competitors were required to submit a complete teaching design for a lesson before the competition (including the teaching design for 20 sessions and corresponding teaching PPT for the 20 sessions). On the day of competition, the competitors were required to draw by lot to determine a session (a certain session among the 20 ones provided by them), complete the teaching design and corresponding classroom teaching PPT for this session in three hours, and then give 20-minute classroom teaching and five-minute on-the-spot reply. The whole course of competition was coherent and compact, aimed at comprehensively examining young teachers.

SCUN has always attached great importance to the cultivation of young teachers, requiring young teachers to practice basic teaching skills to give good lessons. We have been making unremitting efforts to perfect our teaching philosophy, improve our teaching methods and raise our teaching level. To well complete the competition work, we established the competition organizing committee composed of the SCUN leader in charge of teaching and the principals of such relevant functional departments as the Labor Union, the Teacher Teaching Development Center, and the Office of Academic Affairs. The organizing committee conducted active mobilization, well-planned deployment and elaborate organization. The schools where the competitors came from established a coaching team to be responsible for organizing systematic professional training. Before the competition, the coaching team organized simulated training for many times and invited several senior professors and experts to conduct all-round guidance and training for the teachers in teaching design, teaching method, blackboard writing, teaching manner, courseware making and other links according to the provincial requirements, so as to make full preparations for the competition.
