During September 15-20, Hubei Province Ninth Ethnic Minority Traditional Sports Games was held in Lichuan, Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. SCUN assigned a delegation of more than 120 members led by Vice-president Zhao Xiaoshan. The delegation took part in 12 sub-competitions of nine major competitions including eight competitive items such as three-people board shoes, shuttlecock kicking and Roulianxiang Dance and one performance item, and won 10 first prizes (gold medals), 13 second prizes, and 16 third prizes, with the total number of gold medals ranking fourth, making a historic breakthrough. Additionally, at the invitation of Wuhan Municipal Government, 14 students of SCUN participated in the competition on behalf of Wuhan and won two gold medals.

Hubei Province Ninth Ethnic Minority Traditional Sports Games, initiated in 1986, is held once every four years. The Ninth Hubei Province Ninth Ethnic Minority Traditional Sports Games, themed “Sing Dragon Boat Song, Build Chinese Dream Together”, lasted for six days. Nearly 2,000 players of 29 delegations from 15 prefectures, 10 minority counties and cities and four universities participated in the games. The sports games were divided into two parts – competition and performance, including 11 competitive items such as shuttlecock kicking, minority wrestling, elephant tug of war, stilts racing, top spinning, stone ball playing, martial arts, land boat rowing, three-people board shoes, Roulianxiang Dance and aerobics, as well as three categories of performances – comprehensive performance, athletic performances, and technique performance. A total of 94 gold medals were awarded.

With the concern of SCUN leaders, the support of all functional departments and the hard work of all coaches, SCUN’s delegation participated in all competitions except for minority wrestling, stilts racing, and top spinning after nearly two years’ preparation and intensive training for nearly half a year and won prizes in all competitions.
The first prizes we won are for: 55kg-level men’s elephant tug of war, and 50kg-level women’s elephant tug of war; martial art women’s pair fighting; mixed shuttlecock kicking, and mixed shuttlecock kicking women’s team competition; minority aerobics (compulsory exercise), minority aerobics (optional exercise), and total team scores; land boat racing performance, and fancy rope skipping performance. SCUN also won the “Prize for Best Organization” and the “Prize for Moral and Manners”.
