On the morning of October29th, Seth Kunin, vice president of Australia’s Curtin University and Henry Li,director of its international cooperation division in China visited SCUN. DuDongyun, vice president of SCUN, Yang Changju, distinguished professor, andresponsible persons of relevant units held talks withthe visitors at the academic conference center. The talks were presided over byPang Jianhua, director of SCUN’s international office.
Seth Kunin introduced basic situationof Curtin University, its development over recent years,international education exchange, global rankings of advantageous disciplinesand others. Based on achievements of Henry Li’s visit to and exchange with SCUNin first half of this year, Seth Kunin expressed the desire to exchange andcooperate with SCUN in fields of double undergraduate or postgraduate degreeand joint training program, short-term student exchange and others.
YangChangju put forward three suggestions: first, cooperation should be carried outby drawing on mature and well-run project models of Curtin University and thosein China; secondly, making full use of two universities’ advantagesin the fields of ethnological research and indigenous research, and cooperatingin the teaching and research field; the third is conducting the studentexchange by utilizing Curtin University’s campuses in Singapore, Malaysia andother countries.
Du Dongyun described basicsituation of SCUN, and the situation of discipline construction, internationalexchange and open teaching. He proposed to cooperate with Curtin University inteacher exchange visits, scientific research cooperation, student exchanges, andespeciallyPhD joint training program.He hoped that two universities would implement thepreliminary consensus reached at the talks as soon as possible and formallybegan the cooperation.
Pang Jianhua suggested thattwo universities should first sign an interschool cooperation agreement andproposed the implementation steps for cooperation. Henry Li agreed and indicated,“to cooperate from small things, to consolidate the foundation ofcooperation and to cooperate in multiple fields gradually”.
