Survey Shows Overall Education Satisfaction Index Higher Than National Average

From May to June 2018, the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences conducted a survey on satisfaction with higher education in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China. The national survey data show that the sampled overall satisfaction index of undergraduate education nationwide is 72.4 points, of which the satisfaction index of educational quality is 68.8 points, the satisfaction index of educational fairness is 71.8 points, and the satisfaction index of educational environment is 70.3 points. SCUN's data show that the overall satisfaction index of undergraduate education is 79.5 points, the satisfaction index of educational quality is 70.3 points, the satisfaction index of educational fairness is 75.2 points, and the satisfaction index of educational environment is 74.4 points, all of which are higher than the national average.

Based on the first round of national survey in 2016, the questionnaire was revised according to the development trend of higher education in the new era with teachers included into the object of survey. The development of higher education is reflected from the perspectives of students, teachers and employers. A total of 49,800 teachers and students (including 26,200 undergraduate students and 94,400 teachers) from 356 colleges and universities (including 187 undergraduate colleges and universities) participated in the survey.

As a sample of the survey, through careful organization and arrangement, SCUN carried out a higher education satisfaction survey from May 7 to June 10, 2018 with 185 graduates of the year of 2018 from 20 schools and 50 teachers from 20 schools and 4 functional departments as the objects of the survey. The survey covers areas of the overall satisfaction of China's higher education as well as the overall satisfaction, ethos, image, education effect, campus safety, campus service and campus life of SCUN. 184 valid questionnaires by students and 47 valid questionnaires by teachers were collected with valid response rates of 99.5% and 94% respectively.

Student satisfaction is an important measure of the quality of higher education. Higher education satisfaction survey reflects students' satisfaction with higher education and teaching, and also reflects the implementation of the national macro higher education management policy.  The satisfaction of students of SCUN has increased by 11.7%, 12.1%, 10.2% and 6.5% respectively compared with that in 2016.

To address the problems put forward by students in the survey, do a better job in the reform of undergraduate education and teaching and implement the spirit of the national conference on higher education and the university conference on undergraduate education in the new era, SCUN will strive to improve the quality of undergraduate education, establish and perfect the dynamic adjustment mechanism of specialties, make adjustment to specialties that do not meet the development needs and to curriculum structure, enhance the ability to serve the economic and social development of the region, heighten academic challenges, increase the level of difficulty and depth of curriculum, expand the selectivity of curriculum, offer "golden courses" and eliminate "shoddy courses", increase the credits of general education courses, promote the quality of general education, offer more courses on innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthen the management of teaching process, improve teaching incentive mechanism, encourage teachers to devote more to teaching and modify ineffective teaching methods, lay down classified standards of practical teaching according to the characteristics of specialties and the requirements of talent training, perfect the coordination mechanism of training objectives, increase the proportion of credits of practical learning, strengthen the construction of practical education platform, strengthen the management of the process of internship by utilizing resources inside and outside the SCUN, and strive for meticulous scholarship and learning.
