On September 11, the Clarivate ESI database was updated, the ESI rankings of the discipline of engineering at SCUN now ranks among the top 1% of universities and research institutions worldwide. This is another 1% of the subjects that entered the ESI world after the chemistry discipline. It marks that our engineering discipline has entered the ranks of international high-level disciplines.
Essential Science Indicators, or ESI, the basic scientific indicator database, was launched in 2001 by the world-renowned academic information publishing institute, the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI), to measure scientific research performance and track scientific development trends. It is a quantitative analysis database established by Clarivate based on more than 10 million document records of more than 11,000 academic journals in the world, which are included in the SCIE (Science Citation Index Expanded) and SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index). It provides research performance statistics and research strength rankings for countries, institutions, and journals in 22 subject research fields. ESI has become an important evaluation index for evaluating the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, and countries/regions in the world today.

In recent years, SCUN has attached great importance to the frequency of ESI paper citations, and the disciplines of chemistry and engineering have entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings. The updated data is from January 1, 2009 to June 30, 2019. The worldwide citation frequency threshold of the top 1% of the engineering disciplines is 2,614 times. The data shows that 237 ESI papers have been published in the field of ESI engineering and have been cited 2,614 times, with an average of 11.03 times citations per article, and 8 papers have been cited significantly and one of the papers participated in Research Front.

Note: This data does not exclude the frequency of conference references.
In October 2015, the State Council issued the Overall Plan for Coordinating the Advancement of World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplines, which marked the beginning of the double first class construction. ESI has been used as an important reference for the “double first class” evaluation. For a long time, the school attaches great importance to the double first-class construction and basic research work, strengthens scientific research management and team building, strengthens policy guidance and goal orientation, provides incentives for high-level outcomes, focuses on improving the core competitiveness and international influence of the school, holds several ESI working conference aiming to improve ESI engineering papers citations. Through the joint efforts of various departments and colleges, our engineering discipline has entered the top 1% of ESI global for the first time.
