On November 2, guided by the Education and Technology Department of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC), the Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), and the Implementation and Administration Office for Major New Medicine Development Technology Projects and hosted by the SCUN, the 2nd Ethnic Medicine Innovation International Forum and the Major New Medicine Development and Ethnic Medicine Promotion Conference were held at the Academic Exchange Center. The forum was presided over by Professor Mei Zhinan and attended by Wang Hongxiao, deputy inspector of the Education and Technology Department of the SEAC, He Xiaolu, the deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of the SATCM, Chai Huiting, the director of the the Implementation and Administration Office for Major New Medicine Development Technology Projects, Bian Jing, the CPC Committee Secretary of the SCUN and Li Jinlin, the president of the SCUN.

The theme of the forum this year was “Ethnic Medicine and Belt and Road”. More than 100 experts and scholars from dozens of countries along the “Belt and Road” such as India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Iran and the fields such as TCM, Tibetan Medicine, Mongolian Medicine, Uygur Medicine, Dai Medicine, Zhuang Medicine and Kazakh Medicine got together to discuss the inheritance, innovation, modernization and internationalization of ethnic medicine.
Li Jinling delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, hoping that the experts and scholars of ethnic medicine could follow the development trend of the times, seize the opportunities and explore how to develop the science and technology of ethnic medicine. He said, the SCUN will take the conference as a chance to aim at the development frontier, solidify the discipline basis and make a bigger contribution to the economic and social development of ethnic regions. Wang Hongxiao, He Xiaolu, Chai Huiting, Abdul Ghafoor, vice chairman of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, etc. addressed in succession. They hoped that the scholars attending the conference could promote the development of TCM in inheritance and innovation and actively serve the actual needs in the construction and development of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
On the forum, experts and scholars discussed the strategies for the innovation and development of ethnic medicine from different perspectives and offered advice and suggestions on promoting the implementation of major new medicine projects and leading the fast development of ethnic medicine and healthcare industry. A total of 17 experts and scholars delivered a special speech and launched academic exchanges on such topics as the sustainable approaches of traditional medicine, a comparison of foreign traditional medicine and therapies, safety evaluation of the TCM, characteristic resources of Tibetan medicine and the inheritance and development of Miao Medicine.
The forum aimed to implement the important instructions made by President Xi Jinping on the work of TCM, the “Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Promoting the Inheritance and Innovation of TCM” and the guidelines released in the National Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine, promote the innovation and development of ethnic medicine industry, and facilitate the academic inheritance, scientific progress and resource protection of ethnic medicine, thus giving a better play to the active role of ethnic medicine in the construction of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
