Prof. Ronald J Quinn, director of Eskitis Institute for Cell and Molecular Therapies, Griffith University, Australia, and fellow of the Australia Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering, paid a visit to SCUN for academic exchange. On the afternoon of May 21, he was warmly welcomed by President Li Jinlin, Vice-president Luo Jiansheng, officials from Office of International Relationships and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, etc.
In the conference, both sides talked about promotion of high-profile visits, cooperation in research fields such as resources and environment, economic management and traditional Chinese medicine. Prof. Ronald J Quinn, an outstanding and influential scientist in international medical researches, was invited to be an honorary professor by SCUN. President Li Jinlin, on behalf of SCUN, conferred the appointment letter to Prof. Ronald J Quinn. The latter gladly received the invitation, gave a gift in return, and promised to promote cooperation between the two universities.
After the conference, Prof. Ronald J Quinn gave a lecture entitled Extending the Options for Natural Products: Scaffolds and Fragments as Drug Discovery Tools at the Academic Exchange Center for teaching staff and students from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, SCUN. He introduced the international frontier exploration of natural products as potential drugs, such as building of Nature Bank, building of Prefractionation Library, lead compound discovery based on Lipinski's Rule of Five, lead compound discovery based on Scaffolds Library and Fragments Library, FT-ICR-MS based discovery of antitumour activity compounds, etc., which were warmly welcomed by teachers and students present. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Ronald J Quinn patiently answered questions of students and teachers.
