SCMZU’s Ranking on the latest ESI Ranking Up

Recently, Clarivate (formerly Thomson Reuters) released the latest ESI statistics from January 1, 2010 to February 29, 2020. Data show that the total number of institutions on the list is 6,455, and SCMZU ranks 2,598, which is 81 places higher than that of the same period last year, and the relative ranking has steadily increased. A total of 3,046 ESI papers of SCMZU have been published, among which 42 were highly cited, with a total of 36,346 citations and 11.93 per-paper citation.


According to the latest ESI data, a total of 1,299 institutions in chemistry discipline have entered the top 1% of ESI ranking, and the chemistry discipline of SCMZU ranks 794th in the world, which is 34 places higher than that of the same period of last year. The ranking has increased from the international ranking ratio of 99% (1094/1103) in November 2015 to the top 61% of ESI ranking at present. A total of 1,084 ESI papers in chemistry discipline of SCMZU have been published, including 17 highly-cited papers, with a total of 16,999 citations and 15.68 per-paper citation. Among the 1,541 institutions that have entered the top 1% of ESI ranking in engineering discipline, our school ranks 1,458th, and its ranking has increased from international ranking ratio of 100% (1468/1468) in September 2019 to 94.6% in the current ESI ranking. A total of 261 ESI papers in the engineering discipline of SCMZU were published, including 8 highly-cited papers, with a total of 3,012 citations and 11.54 per-paper citation.


It is reported that ESI essential science indicators is a basic analysis and evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking scientific development trend, which was developed by Clarivate, an American company, in 2001. ESI includes 22 disciplines, and makes statistics on SCI/SSCI papers published by all universities and research institutions all over the world in recent 11 years, and ranks the top 1% disciplines, research papers and research institutions in the world. The data statistics are updated every two months, and the data of the earliest year is eliminated in May every year. At present, ESI has become one of the most important evaluation index tools used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of colleges and universities, academic institutions and countries/regions worldwide.
