Recently, the online course Introduction to Nobel Prize in Chemistry (Bilingual), co-created by Professor Wang Xian and Professor Li Lin of School of Chemistry and Materials Science of SCMU was launched on Xuexi.cn (Hubei platform), which made it more convenient for college students of related disciplines in SCMU and other universities across the country to study online during the Covid-19 epidemic.

This course is comprised of 20 units and is mainly about the introduction to 20 Nobel laureates including Bernard Fellinga, Sharpless, Van Thoff and Madame Curie in English in terms of their life experience, academic achievements, scientific value and spiritual character. The course also provides scientific quality education in Chinese so that ideological education and scientific knowledge education can be integrated to make the course more advanced, innovative and practical. At present, the course has been launched on Xuexi.cn (Hubei platform), “Chaoxing Xuexitong” and Xueyinonline.com, etc.
The online course is mainly in English with subtitles in both Chinese and English to facilitate its promotion, which took us a lot of time to dig into related resources because we needed to translate some proper nouns accurately. Wang Xian and Li Lin said that they had begun to prepare the course during the summer vacation of 2019. There are Chinese and English subtitles so that while learning chemistry, we can improve our English at the same time. This course aims to integrate science education with ideological and political education to guide young students to use scientific methods to broaden horizon, improve independent thinking, achieve all-round personal development and cultivate elegant feelings while acquiring professional knowledge and skills, so that they will become better and better through diversified choices, develop their unique potential and spirit, have complete personality and innovation vitality, and realize the unity of truth, goodness and beauty through learning and scientific research. This course won the first prize in the finals of the 2019 Online and Offline Mixed Golden Course teaching competition.
Professor Wang Xian and Professor Li Lin, the main lecturers of the course, have been engaged in teaching and scientific research in colleges and universities for more than ten years, and they have rich teaching experience and have achieved fruitful results. Professor Wang Xian has taken charge of a number of National Natural Science Foundation projects and outstanding youth projects of Hubei Natural Science Foundation, and won the third prize in the finals of the first National Micro-course Teaching Competition. Professor Li Lin has taken charge of National Natural Science Foundation projects and Hubei Natural Science Foundation projects, and has won the second prize of Hubei Young Teachers' Teaching Competition and the honorary titles including Hubei Young Teaching Expert and Teaching Model of SCMU in 2019. They not only devote themselves to teaching and scientific research, but also pay much attention to educating students, so they are highly praised by the students. When I am learning this course, I can feel that the two teachers have worked so hard on it. The online video courses are elaborately made, and the two teachers’ enthusiasm is contagious. We can benefit from the positive values they promote and acquire some philosophical ideas as the same time!
