Recently, the Ministry of Education of Hubei Province has released the list of advantaged characteristic disciplines (groups) of colleges and universities of Hubei Province during the “14th 5-Year Plan”. The four advantaged characteristic discipline groups declared by SCMZU have all been approved, including language and literature resources and cultural industry development, biological resources and environmental engineering, intelligent communication and ubiquitous computing, regional development and digital governance, which signifies that the discipline construction of SCMZU has reached a new height.

The List of Advantaged Characteristic Discipline Groups of SCMZU

In March 2021, the Education Department of Hubei Province kicked off the declaration work of advantaged characteristic disciplines (groups) of colleges and universities in the “14th 5-Year Plan”. SCMZU has paid much attention to this program, focusing on the fields of basic researches, “Two New and One Key” construction, national economy and people’s livelihood, and ten key industries of Hubei. Full argumentation has been carried out based on the economic and social development requirements of the state, the province and the region, as well as the characteristics of advantaged disciplines. The four discipline groups mentioned above have been recommended to the appraisal of provincial-level advantaged characteristic discipline groups after they were reviewed by experts, deliberated by the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee of SCMZU and approved by the Office of the President.

The construction of advantaged characteristic discipline groups is a strategic and fundamental job for the discipline construction of the university, an important channel to improve the school-running level, form school-running characteristics and highlight the competitiveness of the university and an important step to build a three-level construction system of “Double First-Class” disciplines, provincial-level advantaged characteristic disciplines (groups) and university-level key disciplines. SCMZU will further study and develop the five-year plan and annual task statement for the construction of discipline groups and implement them carefully to ensure that the strength of its discipline groups can be improved obviously after the expiry of the construction period, and make active contributions to the high-quality development of Hubei in the new era.
