On the afternoon of May 24, a conference on cultivating young talents was held at SCMU. Zhou Senfeng, secretary of Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, Li Jinlin, president of SCMU, Du Dongyun, vice president of SCMU, Han Yesheng, member of the standing committee of CPC SCMU committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, as well as faculty representatives attended the meeting. The conference was presided over by Song Fajun, vice secretary of CPC SCMU committee and vice president of SCMU.
In the conference, Li Jinlin expressed his gratitude to Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League for its continuous support and concern for SCMU. Driven by the need of emerging industry and high-tech development, SCMU set up an industry college to promote the reform of talent cultivation and achieved a series of targeted cooperation new models such as “on-demand supply”, which advanced the cultivating of prominent engineers. President Li hoped that all parties to the contract would work together to explore a new mechanism for the integrated development of the industrial chain, innovation chain, education chain, and talent chain so as to accelerate the construction of the integration of production and education, and set a new benchmark for the collaborative education in and around the college.
Three young tutors respectively delivered speeches on talent cultivation. Li Bo, dean of the School of Economics and tutor of the 1802 class of Economics, proposed that teachers play a key role in cultivating talents. They must bear in mind the original aspiration of educating talents for the Party and the country, and help students both in study and life. Han Xiaole, winner of the China Youth “May-4th Medal” of Hubei province and tutor of the 1902 class of Chemical Engineering in the school of Chemistry and Materials Science, shared her own experience on chasing dream. She believed that the ideological and political course with high quality plays a crucial part in cultivating talents and in this way the youth will devote themselves into the realization of national rejuvenation. Ni Wenjun, tutor of the 2009 class of the College of Electronics and Information, shared his experience as well. He stressed the significance of developing students’ innovation ability through individualization and attached great importance to the interactions between teachers and students, which directly contribute to the enhancement of students’ systematic thinking abilities. He also shared his experience and practice to improve undergraduate and graduate students’ innovative ability.
Four cooperation agreements were signed in the conference-school-enterprise cooperation agreements with Wuhan Industrial Institute for Optoelectronics Co., Ltd and Jingzhou Youth Entrepreneurship Park signed by Du Dongyun, on behalf of SCMU; a school-region cooperation agreement between the Youth League Committee of SCMU and Jingzhou Municipal Youth League Committee; a joint education agreement to cultivate talents between the College of Electronics and Information and R&D Center of Tencent Cloud & Smart Industries Group. Han Yesheng presided over the inaugural ceremony of the Venus Project Cooperation Base, which aims to cultivate excellent engineers with Wuhan Industrial Institute for Optoelectronics Co., Ltd, Jingzhou Zhigu Pioneer Park Management Co., Ltd, Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies Co., Ltd, R&D Center of Tencent Cloud & Smart Industries Group and Wuhan Silicon Integrated Co., Ltd. Zhou Senfeng, heads of enterprises and leaders of SCMU jointly announced the start of the Venus Project.

Before the conference, Zhou investigated the Youth Entrepreneurship Park of SCMU, listened to its work report during the construction and trial operation period. He also had an in-depth discussion with the young entrepreneurs there and spoke highly of the innovative atmosphere and their remarkable achievements. The relevant departments and each school of SCMU respectively held discussions on the construction of industry college, the student employment, the school-region cooperation and the students’ social practice activity in summer time and then deployed related works.
