In late October, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, in conjunction with the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, announced the approval of 510 new postdoctoral research mobile stations, signaling a notable advancement in academic research capabilities nationwide. Among these, SCMU proudly secured the establishment of two new stations in the fields of Chinese Language and Literature, and Chemistry. This development represents a major leap forward for SCMU, echoing its previous success in 2012 when it first received approval for a postdoctoral station in Ethnology. It symbolizes SCMU’s commitment to the innovation-driven development strategy, reinforcing its efforts to build high-level talent and foster advanced scientific research teams, thereby playing a crucial role in SCMU’s pursuit of excellence.
Embracing this opportunity, SCMU is dedicated to thoroughly implementing national and Hubei Province’s policies on postdoctoral research. The university is focused on continually enhancing the training and support mechanisms for postdoctoral research, harnessing the full potential of the newly established mobile stations. These efforts aim to strengthen SCMU’s academic disciplines, refine its specializations, and bolster talent cultivation and scientific innovation. The overarching goal is to significantly improve the quality of training for high-level innovative young talents, thereby assembling a formidable pool of talent dedicated to advancing the Party’s work in ethnic affairs and solidifying the sense of a united Chinese national community.
Introduction to the Discipline of Chinese Language and Literature:
SCMU’s Chinese Language and Literature discipline, a key field of study authorized for doctoral degrees in Hubei Province, features a distinguished faculty of 75 full-time members. This team includes 24 professors, 17 doctoral supervisors, and 40 master’s supervisors. Among them are 48 PhD holders, contributing to the department’s robust academic environment. The faculty’s accolades are noteworthy: one member is a UNESCO-recognized “Folk Artist”, another is a national model teacher. Additionally, three faculty members are recipients of special allowances from the State Council, one is a recognized teaching master in Hubei Province, and three have received special government allowances from the Hubei Provincial government. The discipline is also home to a Hubei Province advantageous and distinctive discipline group, a key provincial research base for humanities and social sciences, and three key scientific research and teaching teams at the provincial and ministerial level.
In recent years, the faculty have actively engaged in significant research, evidenced by their undertaking of five major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund for Arts. Additionally, they have been responsible for one major project sponsored by the Ministry of Education and a specialized project aimed at neglected and unique studies funded by the National Social Science Fund. Beyond these, they have initiated 30 key, general, and youth projects under the same fund. Their research findings have been widely recognized, with publications in esteemed journals such as “Chinese Social Sciences”, “Literary Review”, “Philosophical Studies”, “Literary Heritage”, “Ethnic Studies”, “Art Studies”, “Journalism and Communication Studies”. This academic excellence has been further acknowledged through 22 awards for outstanding achievements in provincial and ministerial social sciences and seven awards in provincial higher education teaching.
Introduction to the Discipline of Chemistry:
The Chemistry department at SCMU, accredited as a primary discipline for doctoral studies, is esteemed as a “Domestic First-Class Discipline” in Hubei Province and is ranked in the top 0.4% globally according to the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). It boasts six significant research and educational platforms, including the Key Laboratory for Catalytic Transformation and Energy Material Chemistry, endorsed by the Ministry of Education. The faculty, comprising 70 doctoral degree holders, is a testament to its academic excellence. This includes 38 faculty members with international academic exposure, 10 who serve as doctoral supervisors, and 26 professors. Furthermore, 33 faculty members have been recognized for their exceptional contributions at the provincial, ministerial, or higher levels. The department’s commitment to innovation and excellence is also reflected in its six leading research groups and teams at the provincial and ministerial levels.
Over the past five years, the discipline has successfully led over 70 national-level projects, such as key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science and Technology Support Program, and preliminary projects of the 973 Program, attracting nearly one hundred million yuan in research funding. Its members have published over 500 SCI-indexed papers in leading journals, including Nat Commun, Nat Sustain, Sci Adv, Adv Mater, JACS, Angew Chem, PNAS, Chem Soc Rev, Prog Mater Sci, and Acc Chem Res, and have won numerous provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. The discipline’s achievements in securing two international invention patents, over 70 national invention patents, and the application of more than ten patents in cutting-edge fields like energy catalysis, new energy materials, and hyperbranched polymers, highlight its distinctive research strengths and contributions.
