On June 14, SCMUheld the 2024 Graduation Ceremony and Degree Conferment for 6,447 doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate graduates, including international students, at the university gymnasium. The graduates gathered to witness this important moment in their lives and share the joy of their growth and achievements.
At 8:30 AM, as the graduation-themed video“Chasing Dreams: On the Road”played, graduates adjusted their attire. The ceremony then began with all faculty and students singing the national anthem.

Amid warm applause, Li Jinlin, Deputy Party Secretary and President of SCMU, delivered a speech titled“Be Eternal Strivers”to the graduates. He used several examples to inspire the graduates:Liu Xiang, who visited Tibet three times in eight years and is now admitted to the Communication University of China for doctoral studies, encouraging students to“go where the motherland needs you most”;Du Yutong, who joined the Navy Air Force and later returned to campus, securing first place in the postgraduate entrance exam for South China University of Technology, inspiring students to“turn patriotic hearts into actions for the country”;Lan Yuanyuan, who came from a rural village and is returning to build her hometown, inspiring classmates to remember their roots and give back to their communities;The achievements of the Biotechnology 2001 class, with a 77.8% further education rate, encouraging students to unite and strive for excellence.

“Both personal and family happiness and the great dream of national rejuvenation need to be achieved throughpersistent effort”,Li Jinlin said. He encouraged the graduates to maintain four types of spirit: the spirit of perseverance in lifelong learning, the spirit of pioneering and innovation, the spirit of resilience in taking on responsibilities, and the spirit of dedication in practical actions.

Liu Zixia, a 2021 undergraduate from the School of Physical Education, gave a farewell speech to the senior students. Hao Yanxin from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science spoke on behalf of undergraduate graduates. Liu Xiang, a master’s student from the School of Literature,Journalismand Communication, represented postgraduate students in his speech. Lu’an, an international student from Congo, shared his experiences at SCMU as a representative of international students, and expressed his gratitude to the university and the dedicated teachers.

University leaders performed the traditional tassel-turning ceremony and presented degree certificates to graduate representatives. Ms. Chen, a parent of a graduate from the School of Economics who traveled from Jiangsu Province to attend the ceremony, was visibly moved,“We’re extremely grateful for the university’s nurturing. I hope all the graduates will remember where they came from as they embark on new chapters in their lives.”

At 10 AM on the same day, the 2024 Postgraduate Degree Conferment Ceremony was held in the auditorium. Professor Wang Ju from the School of Music and Dance spoke as a representative of postgraduate supervisors. Wang Xiao and Wang Lanbinspoke on behalf of doctoral and master’s degree recipients, respectively. President Li Jinlin conferred the degrees. The ceremony was presided over by Qin Jun, Dean of the Graduate School.

The ceremony concluded with the song“Ode to the Motherland”,filled with graduates’laughter and tears.Li Shiqi, a graduating undergraduate from the School of Fine Arts, emotionally shared,“SCMU has witnessed every step of my growth – winning scholarships, joining the military, returning to studies, becoming a Party member, and being recognized as an outstanding graduate... I’m deeply grateful to all the teachers and classmates who have helped and accompanied me through this beautiful journey. I cherish every wonderful encounter along my educational path and look forward to meeting again!”
