Since the start of the flood season in June, continuous rainfall has led to rising water levels in the Yangtze River, creating a critical flood prevention situation in Wuhan. SCMU has responded by mobilizing over 120 faculty and staff members to form an emergency flood prevention team, actively participating in efforts to protect the Wu Jin Dyke.
The team’s diligent work in patrolling and safeguarding the dyke has earned them commendations from the Hongshan District Command Center for six days straight. In recognition of their efforts, they have been awarded the honorary title of “Party Member Vanguard”.

University leaders, along with officials from Hongshan District and Guanshan Street, have made multiple visits to the frontlines to ensure the team’s well-being, providing necessary supplies and support.
Team members have expressed their commitment to following instructions meticulously and completing their duties despite challenges such as high temperatures, humidity, and insect bites. They have maintained a strict, detailed, and practical approach to their work, with particular attention given to vulnerable sections of the dyke and intensified night patrols.
On July 8, after eight days of continuous efforts, the Yangtze River’s water level in Wuhan dropped below the warning level, marking a crucial victory in this year’s flood prevention work. The following day, the Guanshan Street Working Committee of the CPC Hongshan District Committee sent a letter to the university, expressing gratitude for the dedication and round-the-clock efforts ofour faculty and staffin responding to the flood situation.
