On November 14-15, SCMU held its 39th Sports Meet. The opening ceremony took place on the morning of the 14th at the South Lake Sports Field. University leaders, faculty, and students attended, with the ceremony hosted by Hao Jiachun, Chief Referee and Dean of the School of Physical Education.
The ceremony began with the national flag escorted by the honor guard, followed by representatives from various schools marching in with banners. Students from the School of Ethnology and Sociology performed an energetic dance in cheerleader outfits, while those from the School of Literature, Journalism and Communication wore traditional Hanfu, showcasing calligraphy scrolls and dancing with fans, highlighting classical Chinese elegance. The School of Resources and Environmental Science presented a fashion show with outfits made from eco-friendly materials, promoting environmental awareness. The School of Music and Dance students performed in campus cultural shirts, displaying their professional skills. The School of International Education demonstrated martial arts, symbolizing cultural exchange. The impressive performances received enthusiastic applause.

After the entrance ceremony, 31 formations lined up on the field. Everyone stood to watch the national flag rise and sang the national anthem. Following the flag-raising, Song Fajun, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President, delivered the opening speech. He emphasized that sports contribute significantly to education, aligning with President Xi Jinping’s directives to integrate fitness and health. He encouraged faculty and students to adopt scientific exercise practices regularly. Representatives Gao Ziyao and Wang Qi took oaths on behalf of the referees and athletes. University Deputy Party Secretary and President Liu Yi officially announced the opening of the 39th Sports Meet.
The cultural performances began with the University Student Art Troupe’s dance, celebrating national unity. The jump rope team displayed intricate routines, combining skill and aesthetics. The School of Physical Education’s aerobics performance highlighted the students’ vitality. The dragon and lion dance team elevated the atmosphere with their energetic performance. The cultural show concluded with the School of Music and Dance’s ethnic dance.
The sports meet featured a variety of exciting events. Athletes ran freely on the track, competed on the courts, and leaped high on the mats. Fun competitions like martial arts, aerobics, shuttlecock kicking, chess, and tug-of-war were also enthusiastically contested. Faculty joined students in events such as sprints, relays, long jump, and shot put, with over 800 participants. Notably, three students broke school records: Peng Shihan from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science set a new high jump record at 1.5 meters, Zou Mingtao from the School of Pharmacy broke the 3000-meter record with 9 minutes 32 seconds, and Xiao Yiming from the School of Computer Science set a new 3000-meter record at 9 minutes 35 seconds.

The sports meet concluded on the afternoon of the 15th. Hao Jiachun announced the results, with teams from the School of Telecommunications, Computer Science, Economics, Chemistry and Materials Science, Management, Resources and Environmental Science, Biomedical Science, and Literature and Journalism ranking in the top eight for overall scores. The School of Telecommunications, Economics, Chemistry and Materials Science, Resources and Environmental Science, Computer Science, Management, Literature, Journalism and Communication, and Law ranked in the top eight for women’s scores. For men’s scores, the top eight included the School of Telecommunications, Computer Science, Management, Biomedical Science, Economics, Chemistry and Materials Science, Life Sciences, and Resources and Environmental Science. Yang Tao, Director of the Student Affairs Department, announced the Best Organization Awards, which went to the School of Education, Law, Marxism, Computer Science, Literature, Journalism and Communication, Music and Dance, Fine Arts, and Foreign Languages. Li Haitao, Executive Vice Chairman of the University Labor Union, announced the faculty competition results, with the School of Foreign Languages winning first prize, and the School of Computer Science and Administrative Union winning second. The School of Pharmacy, Life Sciences, and Physical Education won third prize. University leaders presented awards to the winning teams and representatives.
Li Hongyan, a member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, officially closed the 39th Sports Meet. She thanked the flag bearers, athletes, referees, staff, and volunteers. She emphasized that the meet, under the theme “Promoting Fitness for All and Building a Strong Sports Nation”, was a celebration of both athletic competition and national unity. She encouraged athletes to continue striving for excellence and urged everyone to engage in fitness activities, contributing to a healthy SCMU and supporting the development of a strong sports nation.
