On January 24th, the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth lunar month, SCMU held its 2025 New Year Celebration at the Student Activity Center, bringing together students remaining on campus during the winter break to welcome the Year of the Snake. More than 400 attendees, including Liu Yi, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee and President, heads of various departments and schools, faculty representatives, and students staying on campus, gathered to celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival.

President Liu performed the traditional lion eye-dotting ceremony and delivered a speech. He extended holiday greetings and New Year wishes to students, faculty members, and their families who remained on campus, as well as to frontline staff working during the winter break. He noted that in the past year, the university had deepened educational reforms, promoted management service innovation, and focused on improving teaching quality. The university seized opportunities and boldly explored new paths, centering on consolidating the sense community for the Chinese nation and fulfilling its primary responsibility of educating students. Through a coordinated approach combining internal and external efforts, all aspects of the university’s development have made solid progress. He expressed his hope that students would enjoy a heartwarming and happy New Year at the university, embracing their New Year wishes in the festive atmosphere of this gathering while experiencing a unique Wuhan New Year.

The celebration reached its climax with spectacular performances. The distinctive charm of the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Fish Lantern Dance”, mysterious magic shows, the melodious tunes and heartfelt singing of “China in Lamplight”, and beautiful ethnic dances flowed like warm currents, touching the hearts of every audience member and creating an extraordinarily lively atmosphere. In addition to artistic performances, the celebration featured a variety of interactive games, including “Hugs of Love”, “Charades”, and “Musical Chairs”. Faculty and students actively participated, strengthening friendships and enjoying themselves while receiving beautiful New Year gift packages prepared by the university.

“As an international student, I experienced the festive atmosphere and had many unforgettable memories”, said Wu Miaoling, a 2024 Vietnamese graduate student majoring in Chinese at the International Education College. She was particularly impressed by the vibrant artistic performances that showcased youthful enthusiasm, with each moment of the magic show filled with joy and amazement. Huang Penglai, a 2024 graduate student majoring in Dance at the School of Music and Dance, expressed appreciation for the games, participating in every one. “The ‘Hugs of Love’ game brought everyone closer, the ‘Musical Chairs’ game ignited everyone’s competitive spirit, and the ‘Charades’ telephone game created a lively atmosphere with faculty and students interacting on stage, bringing much laughter to everyone.”

The university has placed high importance on services during the winter break. During the 2025 winter break, SCMU will continue to provide comprehensive services in food service, accommodation management, study spaces, campus security, and medical care, creating a warm and comfortable living and learning environment to ensure students enjoy a festive and harmonious Spring Festival in the Year of the Snake.
