As the first Spring Festival since being listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage approached, on February 8, 2025, the 2025 “Colorful China” Chinese Ethnic Arts Delegation performance series was grandly held at the Gazeta Theater in São Paulo, Brazil. The event was hosted by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, and the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, and organized by SCMU and the Brazil-China Social and Cultural Research Center.

This was the delegation’s first performance in Brazil. The show opened with the grand ethnic dance “Colorful China”, which showcased the distinctive and diverse ethnic dances of the Chinese national family, demonstrating the contemporary spirit of all ethnic groups in China uniting to forge ahead on a new journey and working together to realize the Chinese dream. Group dances including “Waists Reflected in Springs”, “Horseback Drinking Song”, and “Pasture Celebration” presented a series of scenes depicting the happiness and fulfillment of various ethnic groups. Solo, duet, and trio dances expressed rich artistic expressiveness through performers’ delicate body language and full emotions. The horse-head fiddle performance, alternating between deep, rich tones and bold, passionate ones, outlined the beautiful panorama of the vast grasslands.

The martial arts performance “Martial Arts Brilliance”demonstrated the beauty of righteousness, rhythm, and strength in traditional Chinese culture, expressing the national spirit of self-improvement and benevolence. The “Drinking Song” used unique sound effects to transport the audience to the vast Mongolian grasslands, allowing them to experience the grandeur and magnificence of nature.

The performance concluded perfectly with “Splendid Peking Opera and Magnificent Traditional Costumes”, as performers sent Chinese New Year blessings to the audience. After the show, many spectators lingered, coming on stage to interact with performers and take photos.

The faculty and students of SCMU used the language of art to present Brazilian audiences with a brilliant and enchanting cultural panorama of China, allowing Brazilians to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture up close, making positive contributions to spreading excellent Chinese traditional culture, enhancing the national cultural image, and promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning between the two countries.
