China-Ecuador Celebrate 45 Years of Diplomatic Ties with “Colorful China” Performance

On February 16 local time, the first “Colorful China” special performance celebrating the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Ecuador was successfully held at the Sucre Theater in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Ecuador, co-organized by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and implemented by SCMU.


Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador Chen Guoyou, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Sommerfeld, President of the National Assembly Bellos, President of the National Court Suying, former President Atiaga, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of SCMU Sanlang Zhaxi, as well as over 500 guests including friends from various sectors, foreign diplomats in Ecuador, representatives of Chinese institutions and overseas Chinese in Ecuador, and local Ecuadorian citizens attended the performance.

In his speech, Ambassador Chen Guoyou stated that both China and Ecuador are multi-ethnic countries that have made important contributions to the diversity of world civilizations. Cultural exchange and mutual learning form an important part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Ecuador, effectively promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Standing at a new starting point in bilateral relations, China is willing to further strengthen and enrich cultural exchanges between China and Ecuador. The two civilizations, both with long histories and similar ideals, will radiate new brilliance on the path of jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The performance was spectacular, featuring Mongolian throat singing, horse-head fiddle playing, Dai peacock dance, Tibetan dance, Tai Chi, Peking Opera, and other programs in succession, presenting the audience with a feast for the eyes and ears that showcased China’s unity in diversity. The theater was filled to capacity, with a joyful atmosphere and enthusiastic audience response, frequently erupting in applause.


After the performance, Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador Chen Guoyou and Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Sommerfeld joined the performers on stage to dance together, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. While taking photos with the performers, Sommerfeld expressed appreciation for the wonderful performance by the “Colorful China” Chinese Ethnic Arts Troupe from SCMU.
