SCMU Brings Vibrant Chinese New Year Celebrations Across Oceans

During the 2025 Spring Festival, from February 8 to 13, the 2025 “Colorful China” Chinese Ethnic Arts Delegation performances were grandly held in São Paulo, Brasília, Salvador, and Campinas in Brazil. The events were hosted by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Chinese Embassy in Brazil, and the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, and organized by SCMU and the Brazil-China Social and Cultural Research Center, among other institutions. Chinese and Brazilian people jointly celebrated the joyful Spring Festival.


Jin Hongjun, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil; Yu Peng, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo; Martins, Executive Vice Chancellor of São Paulo State University; Peniton, Vice President of the Federal University of Bahia; Luo Shihao, Chairman of the Brazil-China Social and Cultural Research Center; and Sanlang Zhaxi, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of SCMU, attended the performances and delivered speeches. More than 4,000 people from local political, business, and academic circles, as well as diplomatic corps, Chinese enterprises, Chinese and foreign media, and the public attended the performances.



Sanlang Zhaxi stated that cultural exchange is a bridge to enhance friendship between countries and an important way to promote people-to-people connections. The delegation traveled thousands of miles to bring excellent Chinese traditional culture to Brazil, hoping to allow Brazilian friends to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture up close through dance, music, and other art forms, building a bridge of friendship between the peoples of China and Brazil and bringing the hearts of the two peoples closer together.



Jin Hongjun stated that China and Brazil are like-minded good friends, partners who weather storms together, brothers who move forward hand in hand, and companions who take responsibility. “Though mountains and seas apart, we are of one mind”. In recent years, the two countries have enhanced mutual understanding and friendship through cultural exchanges, injecting new vitality into the friendly relations between the two countries.



Yu Peng stated that the series of cultural feasts brought by SCMU faculty and students showcase China’s splendid and diverse ethnic cultures to the Brazilian people, helping everyone experience the spiritual context of China’s 5,000-year civilization up close, and building a bridge of people-to-people connection between China and Brazil through art.



In his speech, Martins said that against the backdrop of many conflicts in today’s world, the Brazil-China relationship is exemplary. São Paulo State University has always been committed to strengthening bilateral relations between Brazil and China. During the Chinese New Year, we are honored to cooperate with institutions like Ibrachina to invite SCMU to perform in São Paulo, allowing Brazilians to learn about China’s rich and diverse ethnic cultures up close.



In his speech, Peniton expressed his delight in receiving the SCMU delegation, noting that the delegation’s visit further strengthened the connection between the Federal University of Bahia and China. He thanked the Bahia State Government for its strong support of the performance and the public for their support, hoping everyone would enjoy the wonderful performance.



Luo Shihao stated that cooperation between China and Brazil has transcended the economic field and the academic field, with cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries becoming increasingly frequent. The “Colorful China” series of performances has become a branded event for Brazilians to get close to Chinese culture and will bring Brazilian society closer to Chinese culture.



The faculty and students of SCMU presented a series of unique Spring Festival cultural feasts for Brazilian audiences through the language of art, presenting a brilliant and splendid Chinese cultural panorama and making positive contributions to spreading excellent Chinese traditional culture and enhancing the national cultural image. After each performance, audiences lingered, coming on stage to take photos with the performers.



During their visit to Brazil, the “Colorful China” Chinese Ethnic Arts Delegation also conducted inter-university exchange and cooperation visits with São Paulo State University and the Federal University of Bahia, discussing and exchanging views on relevant cooperation matters.


The cultural exchange visit of the “Colorful China” Chinese Ethnic Arts Delegation to Brazil received widespread attention from domestic and international media. Renowned Brazilian media outlets such as Correio Braziliense, EXAME (Brazil’s largest financial magazine), as well as Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily Overseas Edition, People.cn, China News Network, Phoenix Network, Sohu.com, and China Overseas Chinese Network published special reports on the events.
