On April 5, the 2025 Nanhu Young Scholars Forum, hosted by the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, took place in Building 7 on campus. The forum attracted 14 young scholars from prestigious institutions worldwide, including the University of Science and Technology of China, University of Barcelona (Spain), Technical University of Berlin (Germany), KAUST Catalysis Center (Saudi Arabia), and École Normale Supérieure Paris (France).
The event was attended by Li Hongyan, Standing Committee Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President of SCMU, along with heads of the Human Resources Department, Academic Affairs Office, and Institute of Scientific Research and Development. Representatives from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science leadership team, faculty, and students also participated. The forum was chaired by Qi Fan, Party Secretary of the School.

In her opening address, Vice President Li emphasized that talent development remains the core driving force behind the university’s “Double First-Class” initiative. She described the forum as not only a platform for academic exchange but also a strategic opportunity for mutual empowerment between young scholars and the university. Li expressed her hope that the scholars would choose SCMU as the harbor to launch their academic careers, forming a development community with the university to create new brilliance in SCMU’s future.
Jiang Ying, Director of the Human Resources Department, provided a detailed introduction to the university’s multi-tiered talent recruitment policies and internal support measures, covering aspects of “recruitment, retention, management, and utilization”. Zhang Daohong, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, presented an overview of the school, including its development history, discipline construction, research platforms, talent cultivation, and social services. On behalf of the school, he welcomed the young talents to participate in the forum and contribute to the university’s “Double First-Class” construction efforts.
The forum featured presentations by Zhang Hua (Professor) and Wei Yi (Associate Professor), outstanding representatives of Nanhu Young Scholars at the school, who shared their research achievements and professional growth since joining the institution. More than ten doctors, including Ma Jun and Ma Dongdong, delivered reports on their educational and professional backgrounds, representative research accomplishments, and future development plans, creating a rich academic atmosphere.
Following the individual academic presentations, the forum also included teaching demonstrations, Q&A interactions, and in-depth exchange sessions. Participants toured the Ministry of Education’s Key Laboratory of Catalytic Conversion and Energy Materials Chemistry.
