On October 30, the results of the 12th Tonggu Award for Literary and Artistic Creation in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region—the highest honor in Guangxi's literary and artistic circles—were announced. The microfilmGorgeous Mountains(Yan Li Qun Shan), which draws on the real-life experiences of Cao Yanqun, an alumna from the 2004 Law program at our university and a national model prosecutor, successfully clinched the Network Microfilm Award in the Radio, Film, and Television category, thanks to its profound thematic concept and superb artistic presentation.
As the real-life inspiration for the film, alumna Cao Yanqun once served as a member of the Procuratorial Committee, Deputy Director of the First Procuratorial Department, and a Level-I Procurator at the People's Procuratorate of Ziyuan County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The film takes Cao Yanqun's professional career as its main narrative thread, artistically recreating her life choices after graduating from our university. With a deep reverence for the law and a profound love for her hometown, she resolutely took root in the frontline of grassroots procuratorial work, vividly embodying the mission and commitment of politics and law workers in the new era to "uphold fairness and justice and practice judicial service for the people."
In the film, the plot where Cao Yanqun handles a complex case of death by negligence is particularly moving: Faced with the tangled interests of multiple parties involved in the case and numerous obstacles in sorting out the evidence, she always overcomes difficulties with her outstanding professional competence. Adhering to the professional ethics of "holding great love in her heart and sticking to the bottom line," she unravels the complexities of the case like untying a tangled ball of thread. In the process of resolving conflicts and disputes, she not only upholds the dignity of the law but also conveys the warmth of justice, setting a vivid and replicable example for grassroots judicial practice.
Alumna Cao Yanqun hailed from a small mountain village in Meixi Town, Ziyuan County. After graduating with her bachelor's degree from our university in 2008, she forwent opportunities to pursue a master's degree and develop her career in urban areas. Instead, she returned to Ziyuan County, which was then a national-level poverty-stricken county, and started her career as a clerk at the county's People's Procuratorate. Over 13 years, she dedicated herself to the frontline of grassroots procuratorial work, demonstrating remarkable drive, integrity, and fairness. With her youthful vigor, she penned an unwavering commitment to the Party, the nation, the people, and the Constitution and laws, earning three individual third-class merit citations and four commendations. On December 15, 2021, Comrade Cao Yanqun tragically passed away due to sudden cardiac disease caused by overwork, at the young age of 36. She was posthumously honored with numerous accolades, including the "National Role Model in Learning from Lei Feng," "National Model Procurator," "Outstanding CPC Member of the Autonomous Region," "Guangxi March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter," "Guangxi Youth May Fourth Medal," and "Model of Guangxi."
