On the morning of May 27, a delegation led by Xu Chong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Branch ofPeople’s Dailyand Editor-in-Chief ofInternational Financial News, visited SCMU for exchanges and discussions on advancing in-depth cooperation. Liu Yi, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee and President of SCMU, along with heads from the Party and Administration Office, the Publicity Department of the University Party Committee, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Literature, Journalism and Communication, the School of Economics, and the School of Ethnology and Sociology, attended the symposium. Li Chunlei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, presided over the meeting.
In his address, Liu Yi extended a warm welcome to the delegation fromInternational Financial News. He noted that SCMU has deep academic foundations in ethnology, economics, and Chinese and foreign languages and literatures, and possesses unique strengths in interdisciplinary research and the cultivation of talent for international communication. Collaborating with a national-level authoritative financial media represents a significant step in serving national strategies and advancing the University’s disciplinary framework of “excellence in the literal arts, strength in the sciences, precision in engineering, and distinction in the arts”. He expressed hope that the two sides would focus on jointly establishing an international communication column, building practice and internship bases, cultivating cross-cultural financial talent, and creating think tank and forum platforms. He also proposed co-planning a series of reports titled “All Ethnic Groups Together March Toward Socialist Modernization”, jointly conducting regional and country-specific studies and think tank development, and exploring an integrated training model of “foreign languages + finance + communication” to enhance the quality of talent cultivation.
Xu Chong spoke highly of SCMU’s distinctive educational characteristics. He stated thatInternational Financial Newsis at a critical stage of all-media transformation and is in urgent need of interdisciplinary talent with proficiency in foreign languages, expertise in finance and economics, and a global perspective. He stressed that both sides should adhere to the principles of “content as the core, operations as the foundation, technology as the key, and support as the vehicle” to promote university-media synergy and mutual benefit, and to jointly serve national and regional development strategies.

At the symposium, the School of Foreign Languages signed an agreement withInternational Financial Newsto jointly establish a practice and internship base. The two parties will take the construction of the internship base as an opportunity to jointly formulate talent cultivation plans, conduct collaborative research on teaching reform, and work together to nurture interdisciplinary talent who can adapt to the evolving landscape of international communication.
After the symposium, Xu Chong and his delegation also visited SCMU’s University History Museum and Ethnology Museum.
