On July 4, the inaugural meeting of the Alumni Branch of the School of Foreign Languages and the Seminar on Foreign‑Language Talent Training convened. Qin Rui, Member of the Standing Committee of the SCMU Party Committee and Vice‑President, former leaders of the School of Foreign Languages, alumni representatives from all sectors as well as faculty and student representatives attended the event. The meeting was presided over by Li Chunlei, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages.

Qin Rui extended congratulations on the convening of the meeting and fully acknowledged the achievements made by the School of Foreign Languages in disciplinary development and talent training since its founding as a department in 1985. He pointed out that alumni constitute the most valuable asset of the alma mater. The establishment of the alumni branch will further strengthen close ties between the school and its alumni. He expected the Alumni Branch of the School of Foreign Languages to play a positive role in fostering emotional bonds, serving development and supporting the construction of the alma mater, and welcomed alumni to “come back home often”.

Yi Lixin, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, delivered a report on the school’s development and the preparation work for the alumni branch. He reviewed the school’s evolution from a foreign‑language department into a teaching‑and‑research‑oriented school, and introduced the preparation process for the branch as well as the drafting of the Constitution of the Alumni Branch of the School of Foreign Languages (Draft). He stated that the branch aims to build an exchange platform, facilitate in‑depth cooperation between the school and alumni, and advance high‑quality development of the school’s undertakings.

The meeting examined and adopted the Constitution of the Alumni Branch of the School of Foreign Languages (Draft) and the list of candidates for the governing body of the alumni branch. Qin Rui presented the official plaque to the alumni branch, which was received by Yi Lixin, marking the official founding of the Alumni Branch of the School of Foreign Languages.

During the meeting, student representatives presented flowers to university leaders and retired senior school leaders as a token of respect.

Three alumni were invited to share insights: Cheng Wenfeng, Class of 1988, Fourth‑level Researcher at Zhuhai Disabled Persons’ Federation; Zhang Junyan, Class of 1999, Vice‑President of Zhejiang Intelligence Indeed Technology Co., Ltd.; and Liu Jialiang, Class of 1999, Chairman of Guangdong Walmate Technology Co., Ltd. Their life stories and successful experience serve as the finest gift to the alma mater and vivid teaching material for inspiring students.

Following the inaugural meeting, the Seminar on “Foreign‑Language Talent Training” got underway. At the sub‑forum, alumni and core faculty members held lively discussions on topics including optimizing curriculum design, improving intercultural communication competence, and strengthening internship‑and‑employment base development. They offered suggestions for the school’s transformation and upgrading as well as foreign‑language talent training.
