Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the results of the key special project of Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a national key research and development plan in 2020. Led by the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and declared by SCMZU as the responsible unit, the project Study on the Quality Formation Mechanism and Origin Traceability of Authentic Medicinal Materials Based on Soil Characteristics was approved and with a total grant of RMB 44.62 million. Professor Fu Haiyan and Professor Yang Xiaolong from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of SCMZU take charge of one project and one sub-project respectively, and they have received a grant of RMB 28.5073 million from the central government, including a grant of RMB 25.84 million for Prof. Fu Haiyan, the highest amount of grant from the central government for scientific research projects of SCMZU ever.
The second project, Research on Quality Formation Mechanism of Authentic Medicinal Materials Based on Soil Characteristics, is led by Professor Fu Haiyan and undertaken by seven domestic universities, enterprises and institutions. In this project, 10 representative authentic medicinal materials with homology of medicine and food were taken as the research objects, and the scientific principle of quality formation of authentic medicinal materials based on soil characteristics was revealed by using stable isotope, multivariate spectroscopy and other technological and chemometrics methods, so as to provide theoretical basis and strong support for the sustainable development of the industry of traditional Chinese medicine resource. Professor Yang Xiaolong takes charge of the sub-project of Establishment of Traceability Detection System of Authentic Medicinal Materials with a grant of RMB 2,667,300. In this sub-project, representative authentic medicinal materials such as Atractylodes Macrocephala Koidz, Chrysanthemum and Lily were taken as the research objects to establish the quality characteristics and origin traceability system of authentic medicinal materials, so as to lay a solid theoretical and application foundation for the establishment of the certification standards for authentic medicinal materials.
Professor Fu Haiyan has long been committed to the development of new methods of multi-spectroscopy based on chemometrics. Her researches on food and drug safety, origin traceability and quality discrimination have made important progress. She has been rated as the spokesman of Cd element in the periodic table of young Chinese chemists, “Young and Middle-aged Talents by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission” and the entrepreneurship talent of Domestic and Foreign Talents of Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province. She has taken charge of more than 10 scientific research projects including 4 national natural science projects. Professor Yang Xiaolong is an overseas high-level talent who has long engaged in research into natural medicine (Chinese medicine and microbiology) chemistry and the quality formation mechanism of medicinal plants based on environmental micro-ecology. He has taken charge of more than 10 scientific research projects including 3 national natural science projects.
SCMZU attaches great importance to the application of national key R&D plans, and makes top-level planning, overall coordination and follow-up services for major projects in line with national needs and discipline advantages and characteristics. In recent years, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences has taken the initiative to meet the needs of the country and the industry, seize opportunities to carry out high-end research in the field of Chinese medicine, and has been at unique advantages in scientific research. It has secured key special projects of Modernization of Chinese Medicine, a national key research and development plan, for many years. The approval of these two projects this time will further enhance SCMZU’s academic influence in the field of Chinese medicine research, and promote the construction and development of related disciplines.
