Recently, National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences announced the list of major projects of the National Social Science Fund for research on the interpretation of the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee. A total of 109 projects were approved. The project of “Research on Laying a Solid Foundation for the Ideology of the Chinese National Community”, headed by Prof. Li Jihe from the School of Ethnology and Sociology of SCMZU, was included in the list with a grant of RMB 800,000.
The approved project of SCMZU is centered on Laying a firm foundation for the ideology of the Chinese national community, and is comprised of five sub-topics of the research on the connotation and value of the ideological foundation of the Chinese national community, the historical ideological foundation of the formation of the Chinese national community, the cultural ideological foundation of the Chinese national community, the realistic political ideological foundation of the Chinese national community, and the solution to lay a solid foundation for the ideology of the Chinese national community. The first sub-topic is about the reason why it is necessary to lay a solid foundation for the ideology of the Chinese national community; the second, third and fourth sub-topics are about what the ideological foundation of the Chinese national community is; and the fifth sub-topic is about how to lay a solid foundation for the ideology of the Chinese national community.
The National Social Science Fund has set up special projects on research and interpretation of the spirit of the 4th Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in order to conduct in-depth research and interpretation of the new thoughts, ideas and assertions put forward at the 4th Plenary Session, promote theoretical innovation, and produce significant research results under the guidance of Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
In recent years, SCMZU has attached great importance to the application of major social science projects at the national level by constantly changing its work ideas and actively innovating its work path. First, SCMZU has done a good job in planning and enhancing the efforts in project initiation. SCMZU initiates major projects for the direction of major national strategies and academic frontiers, and organizes the selection and application of major projects. Second, SCMZU motivates teachers to apply for projects, and funds the approved major projects and provides incentives for the responsible persons and relevant staff of the major projects. Third, SCMZU coordinates the work and strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. SCMZU actively coordinates internal and external research forces, promotes the integration among disciplines, and improves the quality of applied project. Fourth, SCMZU helps teachers improve the quality of application statement by inviting experts from inside and outside SCMZU to hold application review meetings several times at the rate of the progress of application. In recent years, SCMZU has achieved significant results in applying for major national projects of social sciences, and has basically achieved steady development in this respect. Since 2017, SCMZU has secured 11 national major projects in social sciences, including 3 in 2017, 3 in 2018, 4 in 2019 (including 1 major project approved by the Ministry of Education), and 1 in 2020.
