On September 13, the Royal Society of Chemistry congratulated Professor Zhang Daohong, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, on his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).
Founded in 1841, the Royal Society of Chemistry enjoys a fine reputation as the chemical academic society with the longest history in the world and the largest chemical scientific society in Europe, as well as one of the most influential international authoritative societies. The FRSC includes nearly 80 Nobel Prize winners. Each year, as recommended by experts, the RSC selects as its fellows individuals whose distinguished research careers have made an extraordinary impact on chemistry advancement at the international level.

Zhang Daohong, a PhD supervisor, is a leading talent of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Education, eligible for the funding from Hubei Provincial Distinguished Youth Fund Project and special allowance from the Hubei Provincial People’s Government, who now works as the Executive Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Catalytic Transformation and Energy Materials Chemistry of the Ministry of Education.
Professor Zhang has founded and led his team, the Hyperbranched Polymers Team, to gain titles including the Hubei Provincial Natural Science Innovation Group, the State Civil Affairs Commission Innovation Team and the Hubei Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Strategic Team. As the founder and director of the Hubei Engineering Research Center for Hyperbranched Polymer Synthesis and Application Technology, he has been engaged in the research of hyperbranched polymer synthesis and application for a long time, focusing on the R&D and practical industrial application of polymer materials for new energy wind power and automobile, where important progress and remarkable academic achievements have already been made.
With more than 100 high level research papers as corresponding author published in journals like Nature Sustainability, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, ACS Nano, Progress in Materials Science, ACS Macro Letters, Macromolecules etc., Professor Zhang has as well presided over more than 40 projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Science and Technology Support Program, Torch Program, Provincial Major Projects, Provincial Key Research and Development and Enterprise Entrusted Projects, and has been granted more than 70 international and national invention patents, among which a great amount has already fulfilled a result conversion.
Professor Zhang has delivered more than 40 reports and academic presentations in international and domestic conferences, and harvested a number of titles and awards including the first prize of the Science and Technology Invention Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation twice, the first prize of the Science and Technology Invention Award of Hubei Province, the Golden Bridge Award of China Technology Market, and the Youth Outstanding Contribution Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.
