In late May, the China Biomedical Engineering Conference 2023 (BME2023) and Innovative Medical Summit was held in Suzhou. As a major content of the conference, the Education Forum was organized by the Biomedical Engineering Teaching and Learning Committee of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education on May 20, with the theme of talent cultivation of biomedical engineering majors and construction of virtual teaching and learning rooms for biomedical engineering majors. Professor Xie Qinlan from the School of Biological Science of SCMZU was invited to give a report entitled “Reform and Practice of Cultivating Excellent Talents in Biomedical Engineering in Universities for Nationalities”.

Prof. Xie Qinlan’s report analyzed the objectives and priorities of talent cultivation of biomedical majors in universities for nationalities, and introduced the talent cultivation reform practice and results from four aspects, which are talent cultivation model innovation, curriculum system construction, school-enterprise professional co-construction and collaborative education, and support for ethnic minority students. Experts from various universities and members of the Education Committee who attended the forum highly affirmed the exploration and effectiveness of SCMZU in cultivating talents from ethnic minorities, and deemed that the successful reform experience was worthy of reference by universities for nationalities.

The forum was chaired by Professor Lu Zuhong from Southeast University, and Professor Fu Ling from Huazhong University of Science and Technology delivered a speech on behalf of academician Luo Qingming, the director of the Education Steering Committee. More than 10 members and professional leaders of biomedical engineering from Tsinghua University, Southeast University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Chongqing University, Sichuan University, Tianjin University and other universities made in-depth reports and discussions on the core elements of professional construction, including talent training system, curriculum system construction and professional development planning.
