To further enhance the ability of SCMU faculty to utilize AI technology in teaching, research, and management practices, the Party Committee’s Teacher Work Department (Teaching Development Center) and Information Technology Construction and Management Department (Modern Education Technology Center) jointly organized the second digital literacy training session for teachers on March 14th. The online event attracted over 200 teachers and administrators from various university units.

Professor Lai Guoxiong from the School of Online Education at South China Normal University served as the lead expert. In the morning session titled “New Teaching Force: ChatGPT Ushering the AI Learning Era”, Prof. Lai comprehensively expounded on the profound impact of AI technology on socioeconomic development. He emphasized AI’s transformative effect on education methods, providing detailed explanations of mainstream large language models like Wenxinyiyan and iFlytek Spark. Practical demonstrations included text optimization and PowerPoint slide creation using AI tools.

The afternoon session, “AI-Powered Creativity Ignites Multi-Modal Teaching Resources”, focused on utilizing current AI tools for personalized and customized teaching resource design and creation. Prof. Lai guided participants through hands-on exercises involving images and videos. He concluded by comparing the characteristics and applicable scenarios of various AI tools, stressing that educators should legally and rationally leverage AI to empower teaching, research, and management endeavors. During the training, participants engaged in discussions with the expert on topics such as AI tool selection, creative teaching resource design, and the current status and development of large language models.

AI technology plays a positive role in effectively enhancing education, scientific research, and daily management tasks. This year’s government work report from the Two Sessions highlighted the need to launch an “AI+” action plan, vigorously develop digital education, and accelerate educational modernization. At the 2024 World Digital Education Conference, Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng emphasized implementing an AI empowerment action to promote the deep integration of intelligent technologies with education, scientific research, and society. The advancement of AI in educational reform is inevitable. Departments like the Party Committee’s Teacher Work Department (Teaching Development Center) and Information Technology Construction and Management Department (Modern Education Technology Center) will closely follow the educational informatization strategy, continuing to focus on AI-empowered educational reform through various training activities to continuously enhance teachers’ digital literacy and IT capabilities.
