On October 27th morning, Hubei Province launched its first provincial-wide artificial intelligence (AI) literacy course series titled “Nurturing the Future: Embracing the Intelligent Era” at Wuhan Institute of Technology. The inaugural lecture was attended in person by faculty and student representatives from Wuhan-based universities, AI experts, and educational officials, while 2024 freshmen across the province participated online. More than 60 representatives from SCMU, including Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Geng Liang and delegates from various schools, attended the main venue in person. The university also set up a satellite venue in Smart Classroom 10-111 for additional in-person participation.
The opening lecture, “General Artificial Intelligence: Advancing Towards an Era of Human-Machine Symbiosis”, was delivered by renowned computer vision and AI expert Professor Zhu Songchun. Professor Zhu presented a comprehensive yet accessible overview of AI’s theoretical foundations and development trajectory. Beginning with the fundamental characteristics of general AI, he traced its historical evolution and current trends, explaining the paradigm shift from data-driven to value-driven research in general AI.

They acknowledged the importance of continuously updating their knowledge base to become AI professionals with “patriotic sentiment and innovative spirit”. Moving forward, SCMU will continue to organize faculty and student participation in Hubei Province’s AI literacy course series. These efforts aim to expand the university community’s understanding of AI, enhance students’ professional capabilities in AI, and promote interdisciplinary integration in AI development.
