Innovative Approaches in Ideological Education Discussed at SCMU

On the afternoon of October 29, SCMU hosted a seminar commemorating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the ideological and political education discipline. This event, held at the Academic Exchange Center, was jointly organized by the Research Center for the Ideological Education of Ethnic Minority Students and the School of Marxism. The seminar aimed to deeply study and implement President Xi Jinping’s important discourses on education, particularly his directives on the construction of ideological and political courses. The goal is to foster a new generation of patriotic and dedicated individuals who can shoulder the responsibilities of national rejuvenation.

Prominent attendees included Luo Yuting, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University and Director of its Research Institute of Ideological and Political Education; Xu Yanguo, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Hubei Academy of Social Sciences; and Qin Zaidong, former Dean of the School of Marxism at Central China Normal University. Other notable participants were Zhu Zhe, former Dean of the School of Marxism at Wuhan University of Technology, Xie Chengyu, Editor-in-Chief of the Hubei Yangtze Education Newspaper Group, and Zhao Jiwei, Dean of the School of Marxism at Hubei University of Economics. SCMU was represented by Party Secretary Bian Jing and Xu Baicai, Director of the Research Center for the Ideological Education of Ethnic Minority Students, among others. The event was chaired by Tang Zhenhua, Party Secretary of the School of Marxism.


In his opening remarks, Bian Jing warmly welcomed the attendees and emphasized the importance of understanding and implementing President Xi’s educational directives. He highlighted the need to enhance the “Four Consciousnesses”, strengthen the “Four Confidences”, and achieve the “Two Upholds”. He stressed the importance of systematically advancing ideological and political education through innovation in concepts, content, methods, and practice. Li Haibo, Dean of the School of Marxism, also addressed the gathering, sharing insights into the school’s educational achievements and future plans. Xu Baicai expressed gratitude and hope using three key words: “welcome”, “thanks” and “hope”, reflecting the Research Center’s appreciation for the support from the university and experts.


During the expert presentations, Luo Yuting discussed the precise and targeted guidance of online ideological values in the new era. Xu Yanguo explored innovative methods for ideological and political education, while Qin Zaidong examined the core competencies and future directions of Marxist theory. Xie Chengyu focused on constructing a discourse system for Marxist theory research and ideological education, and Zhao Jiwei addressed the innovative development of ideological and political education in the context of Chinese modernization.


In the closing session, Professor Dong Jie, Executive Director of the Research Center, summarized the seminar’s outcomes. He noted that the event provided a valuable platform for exchange among educators, fostering intellectual engagement and deepening the understanding of the importance of innovation in ideological and political education. This lays a solid foundation for further advancements in the field.
