SCMU Holds 2024 Academic Annual Conference of CACM’s Subcommittee

The 2024 Academic Annual Conference of China Association of Chinese Medicine (CACM)’s Subcommittee on Toxicology and Safety of Chinese Medicine was successfully held at SCMU from October 27 to 28. This event, organized by CACM and co-hosted by the Subcommittee on Toxicology and Safety of Chinese Medicine, the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and the School of Pharmacy at SCMU, focused on the theme “Enhancing Innovation in Chinese Medicine Toxicology to Promote High-Quality Development”.


Notable attendees included Wang Guochen, Vice President of CACM; Liu Jiafa, President of the Hubei Society of Toxicology; Chang Pengfei, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission at the Institute of Chinese Materia Medica; Liang Aihua, Chair of the Subcommittee on Toxicology and Safety; and Zhuang Qianzhu, Director of the Academic Department of CACM. SCMU was represented by Liu Yi, Deputy Party Secretary and President, and Fang Debin, Member of the Standing Committee and Vice President. Over 200 experts, scholars, and student representatives from across the country participated. The opening ceremony was hosted by Fang Debin.

In their speeches, Wang Guochen emphasized the importance of safety research in Chinese medicine and advocated for enhanced collaboration between industry, academia, and research to promote the internationalization of Chinese medicine. He highlighted the favorable opportunities for the development of traditional Chinese medicine, urging clarity in new directions to ensure drug safety meets market and public approval. Liu Yi welcomed attendees, outlining the significance of inheriting and innovating in traditional Chinese medicine. He expressed confidence that the conference would provide scientific guidance for the high-quality development of Chinese medicine toxicology and offer valuable learning opportunities for young scholars, inspiring more talent to engage in this field.

Liu Jiafa noted that the conference served as a platform for showcasing research achievements and exchanging ideas, offering a valuable learning opportunity for professionals in Hubei. Chang Pengfei highlighted the critical role of toxicology and safety research in enhancing international recognition and promoting the global reach of Chinese medicine. Liang Aihua stressed that ensuring the safety of Chinese medicine is fundamental to protecting public health and sustaining the development of traditional Chinese medicine. Experts in the field have made significant strides in establishing and refining safety evaluation systems.


During the keynote presentations, eleven renowned experts, including Gao Yue from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Li Candong from Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Wei Wei, Chief Researcher at the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, delivered insightful talks on innovation in Chinese medicine toxicology and high-quality development. Fu Haiyan, Dean of the School of Pharmacy at SCMU, remarked that the presentations were innovative, practical, and engaging, sparking intellectual exchanges and providing scientific guidance for advancing the field.
