On June 9, the 27th “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National English Debating Competition concluded in Beijing. After fierce competition, Sun Yuhan, a 2022 English major, and Xia Shuyi, a 2022 Translation major from SCMU’s School of Foreign Languages, won the national finals gold award under the guidance of Professor Liu Xin and Feng Yanling, achieving a historic breakthrough for our university in this competition.
The “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National English Debating Competition is currently China’s largest and most influential English debating competition for college students. This year’s competition attracted outstanding contestants from hundreds of universities nationwide. In the South China regional selection, Sun Yuhan and Xia Shuyi demonstrated strong capabilities, standing out from 140 participating teams to successfully advance to the national finals. In the finals, the two students relied on their solid language foundation, sharp critical thinking abilities, rigorous logical reasoning, and excellent on-site performance. Over the course of two intensive days, they went through 8 rounds of fierce competition, ultimately emerging from 175 teams to successfully advance to the top 32 and claim the national gold award.
