On October 28, joyful news arrived from the Computer Science Teaching Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Education. Thanks to the distinctive cultivation model, remarkable educational achievements, and outstanding societal contributions of SCMU's Computer Science and Technology program, the university stood out among 12 pilot institutions nationwide and was honored as an "Outstanding University in the System Capability Cultivation Pilot" for 2025. It is the only ethnic-minority university among the five recognized outstanding institutions in the country.

Since being approved as a pilot program in 2021, the Computer Science and Technology major has centered on cultivating system capabilities, restructuring its curriculum into a three-tier framework of "hardware-system-application." It has innovated practical teaching components by introducing enterprise-level projects such as "System Development Internships" and collaborated with Kingsoft Office to develop the "New Future Training Camp," an outstanding collaborative education case recognized by the Ministry of Education. To date, the program has cultivated over 500 students who have secured high-quality employment. This model has been extended to several other universities, including China University of Geosciences. The achievements of this university-enterprise collaboration have been highly recognized by the Ministry of Education. Among more than 20,000 cases nationwide, the Kingsoft Training Camp project was selected as one of the 35 outstanding collaborative education cases by the Ministry of Education, establishing itself as a model of industry-education integration for ethnic-minority universities.

Guided by the core team of the Computer Science and Technology program, led by Professor Tie Jun—a distinguished teaching expert recognized by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission—the School of Computer Science (School of Artificial Intelligence) leverages the strengths of an ethnic-minority institution to deepen its engagement in digital development across the central and western regions. Building on the achievements in cultivating professional system capabilities, the school has promoted the application and transformation of smart agriculture technologies in areas such as the Wuling Mountain region and Xinjiang, benefiting over 100,000 farming households. A number of graduates have emerged as key talents committed to serving the western regions, with their stories featured in nine central media outlets, including thePeople's Dailyand theGuangming Daily.

During the pilot period, the Computer Science and Technology program achieved transformative growth: it was designated as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, passed the Engineering Education Professional Certification, received five Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards in Hubei, developed six national and provincial first-class courses, and published eight textbooks. Student employment rates have consistently ranked among the highest at the university, with over 30% of graduates pursuing further studies in the past three years. Additionally, the program has incubated three nationally recognized entrepreneurial companies.
