In April, the Ministry of Education announced the results of the 2025 registration and approval of undergraduate majors at regular institutions of higher education. The Future Robotics major submitted by SCMU was successfully approved. This marks the second interdisciplinary major approved at SCMU, following the approval of the Intelligent Medical Engineering major last year. Both majors are among the first batch of interdisciplinary majors incorporated into theUndergraduate Major Catalog of Regular Institutions of Higher Education (2026 Edition). This achievement marks a breakthrough in SCMU’s strategic planning and development of interdisciplinary disciplines, and represents a significant outcome of the University’s efforts to serve national strategies and position itself for future industries.
The newly approved Future Robotics major is a high-demand major strategically planned by the University in strict compliance with the MOE’s requirements for undergraduate major establishment, closely aligned with the national strategies of revitalizing border areas and enriching the people, strengthening the country through education, and regional coordinated development. Grounded in the positioning of “ethnic regions + special scenarios”, the major adheres to the development philosophy of “technology tailored to frontier needs, talent serving ethnic regions”. It has established a “Four-in-One” training system integrating intelligent algorithms, systems engineering, ethical norms, and patriotism, striving to cultivate high-quality, versatile applied talent who possess core future robotics skills and a deep understanding of the high-quality development needs of ethnic frontier regions.
In recent years, SCMU has thoroughly implemented the directives of the MOE, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and Hubei Province regarding the adjustment and optimization of disciplinary and major offerings. Guided by national strategic needs and driven by industrial development demands, the university has systematically advanced a range of initiatives, including the application for new majors, adjustment of major names, and optimization of degree categories. Moving forward, SCMU will continue to align with the direction of national higher education reform. Leveraging the establishment of new majors as an opportunity, the university will further optimize its major layout, innovate talent cultivation models, enhance the quality of major development, and strengthen its comprehensive capacity to serve major national strategies, regional socio-economic development, and modernization in ethnic regions, striving to solidify the foundation for talent cultivation in building a leading country in education.
