Listed among the most highly valued disciplinary competitions for university students by thFrom August 21 to 23, the national finals of the 21st National University Students’ Smart Car Race were held at Anhui University. After fierce competition, SCMU obtained one National First‑Class Prize and three National Second‑Class Prizes, together with four Provincial First‑Class Prizes, three Provincial Second‑Class Prizes and one Provincial Third‑Class Prize. The results add another brilliant chapter to the university’s track record in this event. China Association of Higher Education, the National University Students’Smart Car Race is the most influential national‑level innovationandpractice contest in the fields of automation and intelligent vehicles. For the racing tracks of this edition, 3,620 teams from 642 universities across China registered for 11 racing events. Following multi‑round screening, 599 teams advanced to the national finals amid intense rivalry.

Integrating cutting‑edge technologies including artificial intelligence, sensor technology, automatic control and computer vision, the competition provides a high‑level competitive platform for students to engage in engineering practice and technological innovation. It comprehensively assesses participants’ system‑design capabilities, software‑and‑hardware development proficiency and teamwork skills. During pre‑competition preparations, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship actively implemented support policies for disciplinary contests and delivered all‑round support for competing teams in terms of funding guarantees, venue coordination and equipment procurement, enabling team members to concentrate fully on contest preparation. Throughout the preparation phase, the School of Electronic Information Engineering (School of Robotics) and the School of Computer Science (School of Artificial Intelligence) gave full play to their platform strengths by offering value‑added services such as incubation guidance for innovative projects and interdisciplinary collaboration matching, helping students translate classroom knowledge into solid engineering‑practice competence.

SCMU dispatched nine teams for this competition: eight racing teams and one creative‑event team. They took part in racing categories including Intelligent Model Group, Ant Moving Group, Mine Leaping Group, Wall Climbing Group, AI Vision Group and Wheel Leg Traversal Group, as well as the creative‑event Sweet Potato Robot Smart Medical Challenge. Both the scale and coverage of participation reached a new high. Over months of preparation, team members worked around the clock to optimize algorithms and debug hardware. Repeated iterations endowed their smart cars with outstanding performance, and countless rounds of fine‑tuning translated into poise and confidence on the competition field.
