On May 27, the contemporary dance “Frogman” performed by 18 male students from the Dance Department, led by Chen Ting and Zhong Zhen, and directed by Chen Xiaopeng, the young teacher of the School of Music and Dance of SCMZU, had splendid appearance in the 12th Chinese Dance “Lotus Award” Contemporary Dance and Modern Dance Award Scene, and became the only program obtaining special comment by on-site judges. Su Shijin, the national first-class scriptwriter, said that “Frogman” could inspire a strong sense of patriotism, and the time needed the passionate men just like “frogman”.

This “Lotus Award” was held from the 26th to 28th of May in Shenzhen, wherein 28 works from all over the country entered final competition. Right before the final competition, SCMZU’s “Frogman” made full use of every minute to rehearse, consolidate training, enhance physical fitness, and create stage effect, so as to present SCMZU style on the national stage with best condition. “Frogman” represented how the “frogmen” of Chinese army performed special missions underwater, and vividly depicted the tough and brave image of contemporary soldiers by reproducing the scene of the fierce fight without enough oxygen. The dance finally got the 10th place in this “Lotus Award” competition.

Chinese Dance Lotus Award was established in 1998 and was held in every two years, which was sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and China Dancers Association. It is a national professional dance award set up by Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and approved by the General Offices of the CPC Central Committee and The State Council, and is also the highest award in Chinese dance circle.
