SCMU’s YiAn Smart Control Team Pioneers Electrical Fire Prevention

author:Shan Yufan,He Jiayin Time:Aug 16, 2024 page views:

Electrical fires, primarily occurring in buildings, are among the most dangerous and difficult to extinguish due to electrocution and explosion risks. Recent statistics show that electrical fires account for nearly 30% of all fire incidents. The YiAn Smart Control Team from SCMU is dedicated to preventing these fires before they start, positioning themselves as innovators in electrical fire prevention and control.

The team, comprising members from SCMU, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan University of Technology, and Xian University of Electronic Science and Technology, has developed an advanced electrical fire early warning and monitoring system. This system effectively identifies various electrical fire hazards through precise signal sensing and processing, high-reliability equipment integration, and intelligent analysis with big data prediction.

To date, the team has been involved in six invention patents, with two more under review. They have published five papers and own six software copyrights related to their work.

Breaking Technical Barriers Through Rigorous Research

Since its inception, the YiAn Smart Control Team has focused on developing key technologies for smart security systems, particularly in electrical fire monitoring. The team’s clear organizational structure and defined responsibilities have fostered an efficient and orderly collaborative atmosphere. Led by industry experts like Professor Jiang Xiaoping from SCMU’s School of Electronic Information Engineering and Professor Pan Zejiang from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the team has overcome numerous technical challenges through years of arduous research.

The team has made breakthrough achievements in fire smoke detection, non-invasive intelligent load monitoring analysis, intelligent fault arc experimental platforms, fault arc detection, and local overheating fault detection. They have also made significant progress in electrical load detection methods based on 3D convolutional neural networks and electrical load classification methods based on load characteristic visualization.

Furthermore, the team has pioneered the accurate identification of malicious loads under multiple load conditions and innovatively proposed a wavelet hybrid convolution method for malicious load identification. Their improved SSTDR method for multi-loop fault arc positioning achieves an accuracy of 98%.

Practical Application in Fire Safety

To validate their research, the team conducted extensive field studies, visiting 9 fire centers and 105 universities, enterprises, and museums. Through 28 practical investigations, they identified the limitations of traditional electrical fire monitoring systems and developed a comprehensive, specialized monitoring system.

The team’s research has shown remarkable results in real-world applications. In July 2023, their system provided timely warnings during a cultural relics protection project in Shanxi, potentially saving tens of millions of yuan in economic losses. Similar successes have been replicated in other locations, such as a pilot project with Wuhan Qiyun High-Tech Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. in 2022.

The project aims to significantly reduce fire department responses to electrical fires across China. By promoting their new prevention model in 336 major cities, they expect to decrease electrical fire incidents by 30% by 2027 compared to 2024, potentially saving 700 million yuan in property losses.

Throughout the project, the team has trained over 20 innovative talents, organized more than 10 industry exchange meetings, and provided training for over 1,000 individuals from related enterprises.

The YiAn Smart Control Team has signed strategic cooperation agreements with several listed companies, including China Mobile Communications Corporation and China Telecom Corporation Limited, with intended cooperation amounts exceeding 7 million yuan. They have also entered into production service and sales authorization agreements with multiple companies.

Over three years, covering four provinces and traveling 47,000 kilometers, the YiAn Smart Control Team has conducted in-depth practical research, committed to safeguarding people’s electrical safety. With their professional focus, breakthrough technology, vast market potential, and vibrant path of innovation, the team continues to strive towards becoming China’s leader in electrical fire detection systems.
