From October 16 (World Food Day) through October 22, SCMU participated in China’s National Food Security Week, embracing the national theme “Strengthening Law Enforcement, Ensuring Supply, Protecting Food Security”. The Logistics Department’s Food Service Center launched a series of activities.

To promote a culture of conservation and zero waste, the Food Service Center has implemented comprehensive awareness initiatives across campus dining halls. The center is playing educational videos themed “World Food Day: Start Saving Food with Me” on dining hall TV screens, while promotional banners carrying the message “Cherish Food, Start with Me” have been placed outside cafeterias. Additionally, electronic screens in public areas display rolling messages with slogans such as “Food Security for All, Building a Better Life Together”.

According to Li Hualong, Director of the Food Service Center, QR codes and contact information for dining hall management have been posted on every dining table. These posters, produced by the Joint Logistics Office, enable students and faculty to scan or call to provide suggestions about food conservation measures and awareness activities.

Lin Jinju, a manager at Dining Hall No. 1, emphasized, “Every grain of rice is precious. Whether through our video displays or banner messages, we’re encouraging students to recognize the hard work behind every bit of food. We hope students will embrace conservation in their daily lives”.

After viewing the conservation posters, Huang Xia, a student from Class 2311 of the School of Computer Science, remarked, “One in eleven people worldwide faces hunger. Food is crucial for humanity, and we must embed the spirit of conservation in both our minds and actions”. Regarding her own conservation efforts, she mentioned planning her meals carefully and taking leftovers home when unable to finish.

SCMU’s Food Service Center consistently promotes the “Clean Plate Campaign”. The center plans to integrate food security awareness into departmental educational activities through various formats including class meetings, social practice activities, and knowledge competitions. These initiatives aim to enhance understanding of food security laws and the importance of food security among faculty and students, encouraging concrete actions to protect our valuable food resources.
