On March 15, SCMU’s School of Physical Education received a letter of appreciation from the Cambodian Chinese Association in Luksan City, Kampot Province, Cambodia. Association President Xie Likun expressed gratitude on behalf of the Association and the Public Chinese School for the donation of a set of dragon dance props by Guan Yunshen, instructor of SCMU’s Dragon and Lion Dance Team. This donation not only created a practical platform for overseas Chinese youth to experience Chinese civilization but also wrote a new chapter in Cambodia-China friendship through traditional sports.

Under the “Cambodia-China Educational Cooperation Framework”, Peng Yao, a 2024 graduate of SCMU’s School of Physical Education, was assigned to the Public Chinese School in Luksan City as an international Chinese language volunteer. During his service, Peng fully utilized his professional expertise to actively promote traditional Chinese sports education. Through coordination between SCMU’s International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the School of Physical Education, and alumnus Peng Yao, Instructor Guan Yunshen’s donation of dragon dance props became a successful cultural exchange initiative. In his letter of appreciation, Xie Likun stated, “this precious gift has greatly enriched our school’s physical activities. We will organize students to practice diligently and strive to showcase Chinese cultural elegance in local community festivals, giving new life to the spirit of dragon dancing”. He also emphasized that the Chinese School would use this opportunity to deepen cultural education practices and help more Cambodian youth understand the profound heritage of Chinese culture.

The School of Physical Education at SCMU has long been committed to promoting traditional Chinese sports culture. The school has developed more than ten traditional ethnic sports programs including dragon and lion dancing, martial arts, Cuju (ancient Chinese football), and Yajia (Tibetan Backward Tug-of-War), with its dragon and lion dance teams winning multiple national competition awards. Additionally, in 2024, the School of Physical Education sent four international Chinese language volunteers abroad to conduct Chinese language teaching, continuously expanding the influence of Chinese culture.
