SCMU Opens 2025 “International Chinese Language Day” Eastern European Cultural Tour in Pécs, Hungary

On May 15 local time, commissioned by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and invited by the University of Pécs in Hungary, SCMU’s faculty and student cultural performance troupe successfully held the opening show of the 2025 “International Chinese Language Day” Eastern European Cultural Tour in Pécs, Hungary.

Over 200 audience members attended the performance, including Sun Jie, Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Hungary; Liu Xiaoping, Party Secretary of North China University of Science and Technology; Attila Misete, Rector of the University of Pécs; Jozef Betlehem, Vice-Rector of the University of Pécs; Jozef Bodis, founder of the UQA Foundation; Attila Peterffy, Mayor of Pécs; and Chinese and foreign directors from Confucius Institutes in 11 countries. The performance was also part of the 10th anniversary celebration series for the Traditional Chinese Medicine Confucius Institute at the University of Pécs.


The spectacular and captivating program provided the audience with a high-quality audiovisual feast. The entire performance opened with the Chinese ethnic group dance medley “Flourishing Blossoms”, showcasing the distinctive dances of various ethnic groups within the Chinese family and demonstrating the united and progressive spirit of all Chinese ethnic groups in the new era. A solo performance of “Ten Thousand Galloping Horses” on the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) transported the audience to vast grasslands with thundering herds. “Martial Arts and Dance Brilliance” combined martial arts with classical Chinese dance to display the beauty of strength and grace. “After the Rain” presented the Oriental rhythm and traditional beauty of Chinese classical dance. The Chinese song “Walking and Singing”, performed jointly by Chinese and Hungarian youth, brought the evening to its climax.

After the performance, guests and audience members came on stage to take photos with the performers and engage in enthusiastic exchanges, filling the venue with warm China-Hungary friendship. Attila Misete highly praised the performance and thanked SCMU’s cultural troupe for delivering such a high-quality stage production.


The faculty and student cultural performance troupe, led by University Party Committee Standing Committee Member and Vice President Li Hongyan, will continue to Hungary-China Bilingual School, University of Miskolc, Matej Bel University in Slovakia, the Confucius Institute in Bratislava, the Chinese Embassy in Slovakia, and the Vienna Chinese Education Center in Austria for multiple cultural performances and exchange activities.
