From July 8 to August 8, a postgraduate practice team from the College of the Chinese Nation Community, SCMU carried out internship and practical activities at the Ethnic Affairs Commission of the Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang. Guided by the principle of strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation, the team engaged in field research, thematic studies, and university-local collaboration, honing their skills and contributing their insights at the forefront of ethnic affairs in the region. Their efforts yielded youthful achievements rich in both theoretical depth and practical relevance.
On July 23, Qin Rui, University Vice President and Standing Committee Member of the CPC Committee, led a delegation to visit the interns in Bortala, Xinjiang, and held a symposium. He emphasized that students should cherish this front-line internship opportunity, deeply integrate theory with practice, and “write their papers on the soil of the motherland.” On August 4, representatives from the Graduate School, the School of Computer Science, and the University’s Publicity Department again traveled to Bortala, Xinjiang, to meet with the interns and gain a detailed understanding of their practical engagement.

During their stay in Bortala, Xinjiang, the practice team established a temporary Party branch and jointly organized a series of themed Party Day activities with the Party branch of the Ethnic Affairs Commission of Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture. Team members carried out thematic practices at Alashankou Port (a national gateway) and Alashankou Middle School. In addition, leveraging their professional strengths, the team participated deeply in the work of the Prefecture’s Ethnic Affairs Commission. The doctoral team focused on tackling key research topics: Wu Jiamin, a 2023 doctoral student, undertook the project “Improving the Coordination Mechanism for Ethnic Work,” establishing a research framework covering three levels of administrative units, analyzing 216 questionnaires, and proposing optimization suggestions. Li Tao, a doctoral student enrolled in 2024, participated in the research project "A Study of Urban Ethnic Work Under the Background of New Urbanization", where he organized typical cases of inter-embedded communities from the two cities and two counties under the jurisdiction of Bortala Prefecture (Bole City, Alashankou City, Jinghe County, and Wenquan County), accumulating empirical materials for the study.
