In May, pomegranate blossoms dazzle the eye, as tiny fruits begin to emerge among the branches. From May 1 to 3, alumni of the 1992 Department of Economics and Management, carrying deep affection and gratitude for their alma mater, gathered on campus from across the country to celebrate the 30thanniversary of their graduation. Together, they reminisced about their youth, rekindled the bonds between teachers and students, and witnessed the growth and progress of the University.
On the morning of May 2, a symposium was held at the Academic Exchange Center. Qin Rui, member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of SCMU, attended the symposium. Also present were former leaders of the Department of Economics and Management, Yang Qingzhen and Yang Qian; Sun Mingfu, former Youth League Committee Secretary of the 1992 Department of Economics and Management; Ma Guoping, former advisor to the class of 1992; current leaders of the School of Economics and the School of Management, along with faculty and student representatives; and the head of the Office of Employment and Alumni Affairs.

At the symposium, Qin Rui first delivered a welcome speech, in which he spoke highly of the contributions that the class of 1992 alumni had made to the country and society in their respective roles. He gave a detailed overview of the University’s recent achievements and its future development vision, expressing gratitude for the alumni's longstanding care and support for SCMU’s growth. He expressed the hope that all alumni would fully leverage their own resource advantages, act as bridges linking their alma mater with various sectors of society, and work together to build a shared community of emotion, development, and common destiny between the University and its alumni — so as to help SCMU join the ranks of the Double First-Class universities at an early date.
The former leaders and faculty advisors of the Department of Economics and Management shared fond memories of the days spent with the alumni, and expressed their pride and joy in the excellent accomplishments the alumni had made across a wide range of industries. They encouraged the alumni to continue to care for and support the development of their alma mater, and to “come home often”. The current leaders of the School of Economics and the School of Management each introduced the history, current status, and future plans of their respective schools, expressing their hope that the alumni would forge closer ties with them to jointly propel the schools’ growth to new heights.
An alumni representative shared his work and life journey over the 30 years since graduation, and offered a heartfelt reminiscence of his wonderful school days, expressing deep gratitude for the attentive cultivation of his alma mater and the earnest teachings of his mentors. He said that while 30 years had brought great changes, the sincere devotion to the alma mater and the profound bond among classmates had remained unchanged. Witnessing the rapid changes and robust development of the University, they felt immensely proud and inspired. He affirmed that in the future, they would continue to care for and support the construction and development of their alma mater, contributing the strength of its alumni to its growth.
To express their gratitude for their alma mater’s nurturing, and to wish for the flourishing development of their former schools, the alumni of the 1992 Department of Economics and Management donated an exquisite crystal cauldron to each of the two schools — one to the School of Economics and one to the School of Management — as a symbol of their best wishes. Qin Rui, together with the heads of the two schools, accepted the donation.

Before the symposium, the alumni toured the University History Museum with keen interest. Precious old photographs and historical artifacts, each carrying its own memory of the past, drew their thoughts back to those youthful days of long ago. Afterward, they strolled through the campus — at once both familiar and refreshingly renewed. Every corner, from the classroom buildings and library to the dormitories and canteens, evoked countless memories. The alumni took group photos one after another, capturing these precious moments of reunion with their cameras.
That afternoon, a unique “Alumni-Student Face-to-Face” exchange session was held. Ma Shuaizhong, an outstanding alumnus of the 1992 Department of Economics and Management, gathered with student representatives from the School of Economics to share insights about the workplace and life. Drawing on his own rich, 30-year journey in the workplace, Ma Shuaizhong offered invaluable guidance and advice to the younger students who were about to embark on their careers — speaking in simple and sincere language, and using vivid, real-life examples. The exchange was lively and in-depth, with an active atmosphere throughout.
During the reunion activities, a one-of-a-kind friendly soccer match was held on the University’s playing field, where the alumni competed together with faculty and student representatives from the School of Economics and the School of Management, renewing friendships through friendly rivalry. The whole match was filled with warmth and joy.
