On June 6, the 17th Student Congress and the 6thGraduate Student Congress of South-Central Minzu University (SCMU) were convened in the Academic Hall. The meeting was attended by Xu Yeqin, Secretary of the University Party Committee; Li Hongyan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University; Cai Zixuan, Executive President of the Hubei Students’ Federation; along with heads of relevant administrative departments, Party secretaries of each teaching unit, deputy secretaries in charge of student affairs, and heads of the Youth League Committee. The opening ceremony was chaired by Liang Xiaoxiao, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the University.

On the morning of June 6, the congress opened with the solemn national anthem. Cai Zixuan, on behalf of the Hubei Students’ Federation, extended warm congratulations on the convening of the congress. She put forward three expectations for student organizations at all levels of our university: first, to remain rooted in the fertile ground of education, unite and inspire students with the Party’s latest theories, and serve as trusted friends, enthusiastic supporters, and guiding mentors to the student body; second, to fully leverage their strengths in staying close to, connecting with, and serving students, organizing and mobilizing students to actively engage in Chinese modernization; and third, to build progressive student organizations that keep pace with the times, fostering and promoting a culture of integrity and vibrancy in their service to fellow students.
Xu Yeqin, on behalf of the Party Committee and the Administration of the University, extended warm congratulations on the convening of the congress and conveyed his cordial greetings and best wishes to all student representatives and students of all ethnic groups across the University. He stressed that the University’s Party Committee has always stayed true to its original aspiration and mission of cultivating talent for the Party and the country. Fully applying General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on youth work and on strengthening and improving ethnic work, the Committee centers its work on forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, prioritizes youth work, and supports young people in their all-round growth and success through multi-faceted empowerment.

Xu Yeqin fully affirmed the work achievements of SCMU’s student organizations at all levels since the previous Student Congress and Graduate Student Congress. He pointed out that under the sound guidance of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Hubei Students’ Federation, and with robust support from all ethnic young students on campus, the Student Union and Graduate Student Union of the University have been guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Centering on four core mandates, political guidance, serving as a bridge between students and the university, contributing to the broader national interest, and strengthening organizational capacity, the student organizations have leveraged signature initiatives such as the Freshmen Cup, the Communist Youth League Cup, the “SCMU Youth” growth forum, the “Academic Exploration at SCMU” , and the “Spring at SCMU” campaign. Through these platforms, they have steadily advanced the “Serving Students Through Concrete Actions” initiative, guiding students of all ethnic groups to engage actively on campus and serve the wider community, and fulfilling the mission and responsibility of SCMU youth in the new era through concrete action.
Xu Yeqin put forward three expectations for the University’s young students: first, to cultivate strong ideals and convictions, staying true to the Party and striving alongside it; second, to pursue knowledge with dedication and integrity, honing the skills needed to shoulder significant responsibilities; and third, to embrace the mission of national rejuvenation, contributing to the building of a great country through youth-led action. He expressed the hope that all representatives would bear his words in mind, make the most of their youth, and forge ahead with unity, perseverance, and an enduring spirit of endeavor on the great journey of national rejuvenation. He urged them to write a chapter for SCMU that honors the times, serves the people, and lives up to the promise of youth.

After the opening ceremony, the congress convened a plenary session followed by group discussion sessions. Representatives of the 24thStudent Union Presidium and the 31stGraduate Student Union Presidium delivered work reports respectively. Delegations engaged in in‑depth study and discussion on the speeches of university leaders, the address of the Hubei Students’ Federation, the work reports of the congress, and student proposals. They also thoroughly studied and implemented the spirit of General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping’s important reply letter to the representatives of the China Youth May Fourth Medal and New Era Youth Pioneer awardees, as well as theReport of the 8thCPC SCMU Committee, further consolidating their thoughts and building consensus.
In strict accordance with its constitution and the meeting agenda, the congress completed a number of important review items. The congress revised and improved theConstitution of the SCMU Student Unionand theConstitution of the SCMU Graduate Student Union. It also reviewed and approved the annual work reports of the executive bodies of the Student Union and the Graduate Student Union, the work reports of their respective committees, and the report on proposals submitted to the congress.
In strict accordance with the election procedures, the congress elected the 17thStudent Union Committee and the members of the 6thGraduate Student Congress Standing Committee through competitive elections. Wang Yifan, Chen Yu, Shen Yixin, Gu Siyu, and Yan Shuntian were elected as members of the new Presidium of the SCMU Student Union, while Wang Zexuan, Wang Hanrui, and Zhang Menghan were elected as members of the new Presidium of the SCMU Graduate Student Union.
At the closing ceremony, Li Hongyan extended warm congratulations to the newly elected members of the Student Union Committee, the members of the Graduate Student Congress Standing Committee, and the members of the Presidium of both the Student Union and the Graduate Student Union. She also put forward clear requirements and high expectations for all young students and the work of student organizations across the University: first, to stay true to their original aspirations, deepening their convictions through diligent study, critical thinking, and the integration of knowledge with action; second, to courageously shoulder the responsibilities of the times, striving to be pioneers who contribute to the broader national interest through hands-on, dedicated work; and third, to channel their youthful energy into enhancing the quality and effectiveness of their services through self-improvement, integrity, and innovation.

As the university anthem played, the 17thStudent Congress and the 6thGraduate Student Congress of South-Central Minzu University came to a successful close.
After the congress concluded, the 17thStudent Union Committee and the 6thGraduate Student Congress Standing Committee held their first plenary sessions, during which Liang Xiaoxiao, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the University, held a collective pre‑appointment discussion with all members.
